The Holland Ruritan Club and its membership have been on a great run for recognition within Ruritan!
At the 2006 Holland District Convention in December, Carol Warren and the Simmons family were both recognized for their outstanding contributions to the District and Ruritan over the last year.
Carol Warren was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the community over the last year. Carol was the Activities Chairperson for Founders Day 2006. She spent hundreds of hours directing the events of what was probably the best Founders Day ever. She arranged entertainment, coordinated the vendors, made sure that everyone knew where to be and when to be there. At her own home, she helped our youth members decorate the float in the parade. She
coordinated the placement of the signs, helped with the BBQ Cook-off, cooked the broccoli casserole for the banquet, and stayed late into the night to make sure that everything was cleaned up. She was back the next day to help sweep up the debris from the fireworks of the previous night.
In the early summer she was in charge of Holland’s National Night Out Celebration. She contacted dozens of local businesses and organizations to solicit contributions that included food, prizes, and money. Because of her efforts, over five hundred people came out in 102 degree heat to celebrate the night. Her efforts earned the Holland Ruritan Club the “Best Community Award” in the City of Suffolk out of 26 other communities that competed.
Carol sponsors the youth group at her church, works tirelessly with youth athletics, and served as a representative of our club with Junior Achievement.
The Simmons Family (Joe, Janet, Julie, Joseph) was presented the "Ruritan Family of the Year Award". Joe was chairman of the Founders Day Committee of the Holland Club, Holland Zone I Lt. Governor, and treasurer of the Holland club. Janet was the first woman President of the Holland Club in its 78 year history and co-editor of the Holland District Yearbook. Julie was co-editor of the yearbook and photographer for numerous events in the district. She has also done the graphic design and layout for the yearbook for the past four years. Joseph serves as co-webmaster for the district as well as creating and managing websites for many clubs and the district.
In addition, the Holland Club Website was recognized as the #1 Ruritan Club Website in the nation!
Great Job!
